Dear Anglers and Vistors,
Catalina and I want to invite you to enjoy Cuntuy Fiord Lodge in Chiloe Island, Chile. And remember this idyllic place for your winter holidays.

We really wish you come here with us! What a GREAT sailing and fishing adventure in Chile at Cuntuy Fiord Lodge!. It’s spectacular in every regard. Pristine sailing and Big rainbow and brown trout on fly. Marvelous shore lunches cooked over an open fire as you drank wine and watched! Five-Star evening meals served with an elegant variety of the finest Chilean wines and a premium lodge service with overview to the fiord.

When a big rainbow trout eats a small sinking fly and suddenly feels the pressure of your line, he reacts with the energy of a bee-stung packhorse. Your line tightens instantly, your arms and wrists are pulled towards the water, and your rod contorts into a dangerous half-circle bend when you set the hook. The fight begins and it’s angling fun at its best. The world slows as you play this fantastic fish, engulfed by the pristine beauty of southern Chile. And you get to do it all day. Everyday.

You don’t have to be a professional fly-caster to catch fish here!

Island City tours: Visit to Castro, Dalcahue, Achao, Quinchao and Curaco de Velez area. This contains many little villages where on all those you can visit the churches built by 1700. All made of wood without nails. Whole Chiloe Island is recognized as Humanity Patrimony since 2000 because of his church presence. For non-anglers we have a special book selection about the island and Chile, outdoor activities nearby the lodge such as hiking, canoes for the fiord and very interesting wine tasting or gourmet cooking classes.

We look forward to attend you and show you Chile at it`s best,
Yours Sincerely,

Arturo and Catalina Fahrenkrog

Season starting December up to March

We really wish you come here with us! What a GREAT sailing and fishing adventure in Chile at Cuntuy Fiord Lodge!, Chiloe Island. It’s spectacular in every regard. Idyllic sailing and Big rainbow trout on fly. Marvelous shore lunches cooked over an open fire as you drank wine and watched! Five-Star evening meals served with an elegant variety of the finest Chilean wines.

We had took another couple with us, long-time friends from Florida, and we flew from Miami to Puerto Montt in mid-January of this year. We were met at the airport by lodge owner Arturo Fahrenkrog, then driven thru scenic countryside for about two hours to the lodge. En route, we passed thru some of the most beautiful country I have seen, combining the snow-capped Andes Mountains, emerald blue Pacific seaside and lush vegetation at every turn. You would have taken five rolls of film just on the ride from the airport to the lodge! The fishing villages we drove thru were neat, clean and bustling with activity. Local markets displayed everything from hand-made crafts to wool garments, and from local taste treats to brightly-costumed story-tellers talking to spell-bound audiences of little children.

The lodge is built almost exclusively of wood; the lumber having been taken from local forests. It sits atop a high bluff overlooking the fiord, providing a breath-taking panorama of wild flora and fauna, including daily sightings of dolphin playing in the fiord, and seabirds by the tens of thousands wheeling and sailing past the large glass windows. The lodge was sparkling clean. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice view of the fiord and forested hillsides. Our friends were given the “big room” with an even better view and a larger bath. This lodge is dedicated to the highest standards of personal service and guests’ comfort, and it shows! Cuntuy Fiord takes a maximum of four guests at a time, offering genuine hands-on attention.

I could fill several pages here just describing the food and wine selection! Suffice it to say, everything we ate was of mouth-watering, gourmet quality, and everything we drank was most enjoyable! In the evenings after a memorable meal, we often sat by the windows and watched the sunset magically change the fiord from orange to red to purple. Catalina (Arturo’s fiancée) would bring us a plate of her fresh, home-made chocolates along with a cup of either rich, flavorful coffee or relaxing herbal tea, whichever we requested.

Shore lunches included roasted lamb, beef or pork, flavored with pure sea salt (no iodine) served with a variety of grilled veggies, and followed by a scrumptious dessert.
When a five-pound rainbow eats a small sinking fly and suddenly feels the pressure of your line, he reacts with the energy of a bee-stung packhorse. Everyday. We caught lots of fish daily. Bob caught one huge rainbow which went over nine pounds on this trip!

Some days we fished in a large lake. On others we floated down a small river. The fish were plentiful and cooperative. You don’t have to be a professional fly-caster to catch fish here!
We spent seven days enjoying this angling-eating-scenic paradise. We took photo trips, took tours of several 200-year-old churches, and shopped for local wares where bargaining is expected and adds to the fun. I bought good German beer in a grocery store for $3 a six-pack. Theresa and I found a hand-carved fish that was perfectly beautiful, and bought it for about one-tenth of the price in the USA. We also brought back a case of fantastic Chilean wines, and wished we could have filled the airplane with more!
